Questions and Answers:
Q. I can see my friend as being online but when I double
click his/her name to talk he/she goes off line, what's the problem? (3 possible
answers)
A 1. Your friend's firewall or router is blocking you from connecting
to him/her.
A 2. You could have entered the wrong port number for your friend.
In the window that contains your friend’s list, highlight your
friend, right mouse click on your friend and choose edit. Verify
that the port settings are correct, use email or some other means
to verify this information.
A 3. If you're running a personal firewall make sure it's not blocking
CryptChat IM from communicating out bound TCP.

Q. My friend started a conversation with me, but as soon
as I try to type back I get a message asking me if I want to send
him/her
my personal information. I know I am in their friend’s list,
why is this happening? (2 possible answers)
A 1. More than likely your IP address has changed or is being reported
incorrectly.
If you're using a DNS forwarding service like D2G or NO-IP check
your DNS forwarding software MAKE SURE IT'S RUNNING. If it's turned
off your domain name may be resolving to the wrong IP address.
A 2. If you use a static IP address make sure your IP address is
in fact the correct one. Then make sure your friend has your correct
IP address (use email or some other means to verify this information).
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q. My friend can see my secure messages but when they type
back all I see is garbage, what’s wrong? (2 possible answers)
A 1. Your settings are incorrect if you’re both using the
same certificates (by default you're both using the same ones). In
the window that contains your friend’s list click "Options->Settings" from
the menu. Look at what you entered in the "My DNS, WINS or static
IP address:" field. You should have your DNS name or your static
IP address entered in this field. Make sure you don't have any typos.
A 2. If you're both using different certificates (not default behavior)
make sure your friend has your certificate and has it specified.
Since they can see your secure message your side is setup correctly.
Tell your friend to turn encryption off by clicking "Friend->Toggle
encryption off" from the menu inside the chat window (this way
you can still communicate through CryptChat IM). Next ask them to,
from their friends list, right click your name and choose "edit" then
check the "Select certificate to use:" field to ensure
their using the certificate you sent them via email or some other
means.
